The Russian gardening equipment market is experiencing a period of significant expansion. Driven by a sustained trend of countryside investment and a surge in online retail, the industry is seeing increased sales and domestic manufacturers scaling up production. This is a market that is not just growing, but evolving through technological innovation.

Market Scale and Growth Drivers

The market for gardening goods is robust. In the first half of 2025, the turnover of gardening categories on marketplaces grew by 72%. This trend is part of a long-term commitment to dacha and garden improvement, with consumers investing in everything from basic tools to lawnmowers and cultivation equipment.

This growth is reflected in sales across various segments. In May 2026, sales of garden tools rose by 1.2 times in some categories compared to the previous year, with a notable increase in interest for trimmers, pruners, and brush cutters. The market sees a clear seasonal pattern, with a recent shift in peak activity from May to June and July due to changing weather patterns. Manufacturers are optimistic, with one leading company estimating the Russian market for garden machinery and tools could grow 1.5-fold over the next five years.

The Online Marketplace Effect

A defining characteristic of the current market is the dramatic shift to online purchasing. While traditional retail saw a 16% decline in sales, marketplaces experienced a doubling of sales. This is driven primarily by lower prices on online platforms. The trend is particularly pronounced in smaller towns and villages, which now account for a significant share of garden equipment orders.

This channel has boosted demand across the board. In early 2025, Ozon reported that sales of shovels had increased 5.5 times, wheelbarrows by 3.5 times, and trimmers and lawnmowers had doubled. The total market value of this channel was substantial, with garden equipment sales reaching over 2 billion rubles on Ozon alone.

The Import Substitution and Manufacturing Drive

The domestic manufacturing sector has become a key player in this growth, partly due to the departure of some Western brands, which created a need to replace both the assortment and volume lost from the market. A major example is the Nizhny Novgorod-based company “Korona,” which modernized its production of motor cultivators and wheelbarrows, increasing its capacity by 20% with the support of a 153 million ruble loan from the Federal Industrial Development Fund. This factory’s products are adapted for Russian conditions and have a localization level exceeding 80%.

Another significant player is the “Tsikl” factory, which has taken a high-tech approach to import substitution. It has implemented a closed-loop production process, using 34 robots and 3D printing to develop and manufacture new products. The company has a clear mission: to use technology to convince consumers that gardening is not hard labor, but a pleasant hobby. The goal of such manufacturers is to offer products of comparable quality to those that exited the market.

Future Outlook

The Russian gardening equipment market is in a period of dynamic change. The combination of a growing consumer base, a strong shift to e-commerce, and a booming domestic manufacturing sector creates a positive outlook. As manufacturers continue to innovate and scale up, and as more Russians invest in their country homes, the industry is poised for continued growth, offering better tools and more choice for the modern gardener.
