Dates, Trends, and Key Takeaways
The Chicago Collective Men’s show, North America’s premier menswear trade event, has already set its dates for the 2027 seasons. The upcoming edition is scheduled for January 30 – February 2, 2027, at the historic Merchandise Mart in Chicago, with the August 2027 show following from July 31 – August 3.
A Show on the Rise
The most recent edition, the Spring/Summer 2027 show held in August 2026, saw significant growth. Buyer attendance was up more than 16% compared to the previous year, and the show hosted 757 exhibiting brands across 437 booths, including 49 brands appearing for the first time. Monique Kielar, Vice President of Marketing for Chicago Collective, noted that “the floor buzzed with unprecedented energy” and confirmed growth from international retailers, particularly from Canada and Japan.
Key Trends from the Spring/Summer 2027 Show
Design Philosophy: “Modern Legacy” and “Complex Simplicity”
Two phrases captured the mood of the show: “modern legacy” and “complex simplicity.” Brands are not abandoning heritage but are demonstrating how classic pieces can be subtly refreshed to give consumers a reason to update their wardrobes. “Complex simplicity” describes design details that speak for themselves—appliqué, embroidery, or unexpected seams that catch the eye without needing explanation.
Fabric and Texture
Linen and seersucker were dominant, with brands showcasing linen engineered to resist wrinkling. Linen appeared in contemporary silhouettes like bomber jackets and joggers, alongside heavy volumes of printed linen. Weight was a constant theme—tailored jackets were sheer enough to see through, and performance blends were engineered to feel like natural fibers. Papery and mesh surfaces, typically reserved for activewear, turned up in shirting and jackets, emphasizing lifestyle-adaptable apparel.
The Buyer’s Checklist
Pleated trousers with a higher rise were “the single most consistent call-out on the floor,” with retailers also noting a trend toward “luxe ease”—beautiful, richly textured fabrics paired with relaxed fit and drape.
Craft and Quirkiness
Craft was a persistent theme, often on the quirky side. Brocades, deliberately raw embroidery, novel seaming, and patchwork appliqué transformed otherwise basic shirts and jackets into conversation pieces.
Notable Brand Presence: AVANT TOI
Italian brand AVANT TOI presented its Spring/Summer 2027 collection, “Tracce di Memoria” (Traces of Memory), at the show. Inspired by the ancient Salt Roads from the Mediterranean coasts to the French Alps, the collection features a color palette of sand, oak, thyme, and myrtle. The brand showcased textile innovation and Italian craftsmanship, including a distinctive salt treatment used to enhance cashmere through irregular shades and textures, alongside raw cuts, mat stitches, and hand-painted details.
Looking Ahead
The Chicago Collective Men’s show remains the essential marketplace for menswear buyers in North America. With strong attendance growth, a focus on international retailers, and a continued emphasis on quality, craft, and evolving classic styles, the January 2027 edition is set to be a must-attend event for the industry.
