LONDON ART FAIR

Experience amazing live performances, an inspiring schedule of talks and tours, and an amazing lineup of modern and contemporary art galleries from around the world.

In order to provide a venue for showcasing exceptional Modern and Contemporary Art, as well as a place to discover and purchase it, London’s Business Design Centre in Islington founded the London Art Fair in 1989. Since its founding with just 36 UK galleries, London Art Fair has expanded significantly, attracting 25,000 visitors annually and regularly hosting over 100 galleries. With new galleries from all over the world, London Art Fair offers Modern British Art a well-established home while also embracing a more global and contemporary perspective.

Fostering collecting at all scales, from large works by globally recognized artists to prints and editions that start in the hundreds. Notable sales at the Fair include pieces by Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Theodore Ereira-Guyer, Derek Jarman, and Charlotte Keates. In addition to showcasing established names and up-and-coming artists, the London Art Fair offers a platform for the development of talent. In the 1996 edition, Chris Ofili and Jenny Saville were recognized as “rising stars.”

The vast array of galleries at the Fair features a wide range of artwork, from up-and-coming artists to well-known names in the industry, in addition to an inspiring schedule of panel discussions, curated talks, and artist insights.

Through its critically acclaimed curated spaces, Encounters, which provides a platform for the next generation of artists and gallerists, Photo50, which showcases current trends in contemporary photographic practice, and Platform, which features a selection of galleries presenting well-known, overlooked, and emerging artists that align to an overarching annually changing theme, the Fair will also offer expert insights into cutting-edge curatorial concepts in contemporary art.

Since 2014, London Art Fair has additionally chosen a partner regional museum to collaborate with annually on a special exhibition that allows our guests to experience the history, caliber, and importance of regional collections. The Women’s Art Collection, the Fair’s 2022 museum partner, honored the diversity and breadth of women’s creativity as well as their roles as creators, curators, buyers, and supporters. Exhibits included work by Maggi Hambling, Eileen Cooper and Miriam Schapiro.
