IDS has developed over the past 25+ years into a leading authority on Canadian design as well as a catalyst. In those twenty years, there have been many changes that we have seen. The designer of yesterday is now the problem solver of today and the visionary of tomorrow. Today’s designers must not only be creative but also constantly adapt to their changing environment. This has resulted in the need for new methods of working that incorporate flexibility and change on a continual basis.
IDS is the place to experience the significance of design firsthand, learning about not just what’s new and what’s next but also participating in the greater conversation around design. It is Canada’s premier showcase of new products, superstar designers, and avant-garde concepts from North America and beyond. Immersion and game-changing, we bring together creative ideas, cutting-edge goods, up-and-coming talent, and influential industry figures so you can be motivated by the best of what’s to come.
The inaugural Interior Design Show welcomed the enthusiastic design community, media, and consumer market in January 1999. 25,000 people attended the inaugural exhibition, which marked a significant turning point for Canada’s design community. Among them were furniture designer Holly Hunt, Droog’s Gijs Bakker, and founder of Wallpaper* magazine Tyler Brulé.
After 25 years, the Interior Design Show has inspired over 660,000 visitors and grown to become one of the most popular annual design events in Canadian history. Since the show’s launch, attendance has nearly doubled, and global designers and architects come from all over the world to take their places on the IDS main stage. Every year, the Interior Design Show attracts thousands of visitors and hundreds of exhibitors, solidifying its reputation as a haven for design innovation, creativity, and inspiration.
Informa, the world’s largest publicly-owned organizer of expositions, exhibitions, and training events, acquired the Interior Design Show in 2012. Informa annually brings together more than a million professionals through its 150 offices across 40 countries. The country’s construction, real estate, craft, art, and design industries are catered to by the recently established Informa Canada, which oversees more than 53 tradeshows, consumer shows, and conferences.
