Canadian Tulip Festival Ottawa

Since its founding in 1952, the Canadian Tulip Festival has been held annually in Ottawa, the nation’s capital. The city is covered in thousands of Tulip flowers during the festival, which features a variety of cultural events.

The festival has a historical context: the Dutch royal family fled Holland during World War II and took refuge in Ottawa. In 1945, upon Juliana’s return to Holland, the queen decided to send 100,000 Tulip tubers to Ottawa as a token of gratitude to the Canadian people for having hosted the royal family.
